真空蒸着装置は、真空中でタングステンやカーボンを通電加熱し、その熱によって金や白金を蒸発させ試料に付着させる装置です。この装置により、グリッドに張った支持膜のカーボン補強や、試料への重金属のコーティングやシャドウイングを行なうことができます。
また、電子顕微鏡部品（可動絞りなど）の真空中での焼き出しクリーニングにも使用します。
Vacuum evaporator heats tungsten or carbon to evaporate with an overhead electrode, causing gold or platinum to be evaporated and coat the EM sample.
This device can be used for reinforcing carbon of support films on grids and coating and shadowing of heavy metals on samples, as well as cleaning of electron microscope components (e.g., movable aperture) in a vacuum.
